Keep Austin Evolving

“Austin sucks, don’t move here,” is quickly becoming the capital city’s new catchphrase. Over the past decade, Austin has grown from a grassroots, quirky Texan town to an international tourist destination. Some hate it, some love it but the facts aren’t changing: every year, more people are moving to Austin.

According to KVUE, 110 people move to Austin everyday and Forbes is projected its growth to be 6.1% making it one of the most popular migration destinations in the US.

The city is known for its relaxed pace of living making it an easy transition from high-stress cities such as New York or Los Angeles. It is also the home of celebrities such as Sandra Bullock and household name franchises like Whole Foods. These attractions combined with hosting the University of Texas and the growth of the “Silicon Hills,” make it a wealth of intellect and innovation.

Austin has become the perfect city for anyone who still wants to be on the cutting edge of technology and the business world without the expenses of living in a typical world-renowned city. Business Week is placing these new thriving cities as part of an “urban b-list,” places with the small town feel yet still big city business.

With the arrival of Formula One United States Grand Prix in 2012, a new demographic began populating Austin: the sports fan. The famous racing competition will be hosted in Austin until 2021, bringing in thousands of visitors per year. The world-renowned X Games will also be held in Austin starting this year after 11 years in LA, revealing how even events want to move to Austin.

This flood of new Austinites is swelling the suburbs as well. Nearby towns such as Bee Cave, Buda, Kyle, and Dripping Springs have experienced significant growth in the past decade and have become increasingly urbanized. This has led to more schools, more shopping centers, and more families moving to Austin. The housing market has also boomed downtown as well with its residency doubling since 2000

As more people have moved to Austin, its enchanting qualities have only intensified. From world-famous festivals like SXSW to nationally acclaimed restaurants such as Uchi, the city has become a place for everyone. For young entrepreneurs, it can represent instant business success. For an aspiring musician, it’s a safe place to start. For foodies, it’s heaven in the form of a food truck.Whatever someone’s passion is, the city is sure to have a community waiting. Austin is constantly evolving to fit its diverse and ever-growing population - who knows what the next decade will hold.
